About The Position

Ambulatory Registered Nurse – Breast Diagnostic Clinic in the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM). The Breast Diagnostic Clinic provides diagnosis and treatment to patients with a variety of conditions including abnormal mammograms, breast lumps, breast pain, fibrocystic breasts and breast cancer. RN responsibilities in this position include face to face patient visits, telehealth nursing, and care coordination of multidisciplinary appointments. The Breast Clinic RN collaborates with the medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical, and research care teams. Patient visits include, but are not limited to, patient education related to breast symptom management/ issues, disease pathology, potential treatment options, and acupressure. This role also includes telephone care related to triaging breast concerns, care planning, and screening. The RN collaborates daily with physicians, advanced practitioners, desk operations, appointment specialists, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and medical administrative assistants. This position(s) will be located primarily in the Breast Diagnostic Clinic on Gonda 2. The ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) provide a basis for nursing practice in the ambulatory care setting. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
  • Experience in ambulatory care nursing.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to educate patients and families.
  • Experience in care coordination and patient management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with breast cancer patients.
  • Knowledge of the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.
  • Familiarity with the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct face to face patient visits and telehealth nursing.
  • Coordinate care for multidisciplinary appointments.
  • Collaborate with medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical, and research care teams.
  • Provide patient education related to breast symptom management, disease pathology, treatment options, and acupressure.
  • Perform telephone care related to triaging breast concerns, care planning, and screening.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners, desk operations, appointment specialists, LPNs, and medical administrative assistants.
  • Accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care and transitions of care.
  • Support professional nursing practice across practice settings.
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and communicate all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Provide leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Delegate patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and mentor and teach others.
  • Participate on committees or projects as needed.
