About The Position

The Behavioral Recovery Unit (BRU) is a specialized 10-bed locked unit within the Veterans Health Administration that provides care for Veterans with neurocognitive disorders. The Registered Nurse (RN) in this unit is responsible for the nursing process, which includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The RN coordinates care focused on patient transitions, education, and self-management post-discharge, while ensuring a safe environment for patients who may exhibit distressed behaviors. This role requires collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to promote positive patient outcomes and adherence to quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the nursing process to manage and evaluate each resident's individual care plan and behavior plan.
  • Promote holistic nursing care to residents with various physical and behavioral problems.
  • Guide and direct resident care delivery by support staff.
  • Administer and monitor medications as per established guidelines.
  • Facilitate homecare referrals to support ongoing veteran needs.
  • Demonstrate professional communication and conduct with patients and staff.
  • Support suicide prevention initiatives within the unit.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to facilitate positive patient care outcomes.
  • Comply with isolation precautions and infection control guidelines.
  • Maintain skills in managing disruptive behavior and provide patient education.
