About The Position

The Ambulatory Float Registered Nurse (RN) works in variety of dynamic specialty clinics including, but not limited to, the following locations: Charlton, Gonda, Mayo Clinic, NE Clinic, and the Support Center at Superior Drive. Ambulatory floats provide both direct and non-direct patient care to support the unique needs of the clinical practice. Responsibilities may include patient education visits, patient care visits, providing immunizations, lab monitoring, prescription refills per protocol, performing limited procedures, point of care testing, and telephone based symptom assessment, triage, care by protocol among other skills. The Ambulatory Float Pool supports 35 different RN practices serving patients from pediatrics through adulthood across a multitude of specialties. An individual RN within the Ambulatory Float Pool will train and work in six to ten different practices or specialties based on FTE and practice mix. Hours are Monday through Friday, with varied start times from 6 am to 8 am. The majority of the schedule is 8-4:30 or 8-5 based on unit need. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
