IU Health University Hospital’s Adult Oncology is a fast paced, 15-bed medical surgical unit. This unit cares for a variety of patient populations including gynecology-oncology, benign gynecology, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia/hematology, hospitalist, and hospice care. We also see overflow from other areas such as hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant if appropriate. Nursing skills gained on this unit: Time management skills Post operative surgical care Assessment skills including rapid identification of change in patient acuity Experience in all routes of medication administration Opportunity to earn ONS Chemo Certificate Central line care including port-a-cath accessing and management Engagement opportunity in committees Participation in 2 North Celebration Committee Care of several types of wounds, incisions, and drains Unit successes and culture: Focus on teamwork and culture within the unit Several Daisy Nominees in 2023 Peer shout outs at safety huddle Celebration of team member milestones and life events A robust nursing led NPG structure

Requirements

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
