Requirements

• Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
• Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
• Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Responsibilities

• Develop physical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Insert foley catheters, NG tubes, and peripheral IVs.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Manage various drips including TPN, heparin, PCA pumps, and end of life drips such as morphine.
• Manage and care for central lines including PICCs, tunneled lines, and ports.
• Improve communication skills with providers, PCAs, and others on the care team.
• Opportunity to be a unit preceptor, charge nurse, or capstone preceptor.
• Get involved in unit improvements and be the expert voice on unit changes.
