Bassett Medical Center's Inpatient Surgical Unit is a 46-bed unit. Our staff exemplifies teamwork, and we want you to join our team! We provide quality patient care to a wide variety of post-operative patients ranging from orthopedic, neurology, urology, general GI, plastics, vascular, bariatric, and more. You will learn and refine skills, and become an expert on wound care/vacs, NG tubes, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and CAPD to name a few. The Inpatient Surgical unit is consistently hiring for Registered Nurses with various shift and position types available. Requirements

  • 2 year / Associate Degree in Nursing, required
  • Vocational / Technical Diploma Professional Nursing Program, required
  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred
  • New graduate or less than one year of experience as an Registered Nurse, required
  • NYS licensure as Registered Nurse or valid interim permit, required
  • BLS certification will be required within 6 months
  • Other certifications may be needed based on department requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care and services to patients throughout the life span and in various settings consistent with educational preparation
  • Collects, analyzes and records relevant patient health data accurately
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems
  • Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient
  • Develops a plan of care that describes interventions to attain expected outcomes
  • Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem
  • Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of identified goals
  • Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards
  • Directs and supervises patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel
  • Demonstrates consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care
  • Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity and rights
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity
  • Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures
  • Acts on behalf of patients in an ethical manner
  • Adheres to ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice
  • Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy
  • Participates in nursing research
  • Commits to an attitude of inquiry, research-based practice, and the advancement of nursing science
  • Helps to identify clinical problems requiring investigation
  • Assists in the collection of data within a structured format
  • Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager
