This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center, 250 Dewey Ave, Spartanburg, SC 29303. Serves on the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team and the Long- Acting Injection (LAI) team providing evidenced based services in intensive non- residential treatment and rehabilitative services in accordance with the fidelity model, and in the clinic as assigned. This is a single fixed point of responsibility for treatment, rehabilitation, and support needs for patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who require higher levels of community care and have not been well supported in lower levels of care options. Serves as the RN case manager for patients in Medication Management Only (MMO) status.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing and two (2) years of experience; or a three (3) year diploma and (2) years of experience; or an associate degree in nursing and two (2) years of experience as a registered nurse, one which must have been in a community health program.
  • One (1) year experience working with adults diagnosed with serious mental illness and working knowledge of psychiatric medications.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina.
  • Successfully complete the Basic Fundamentals course with a minimum grade of 75
  • Be able to pass CPR and Managing agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification
  • Knowledge of medical and nursing terminology
  • Ability to evaluate a patients' medical status and needs and use knowledge and judgement to respond appropriately
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate patient medical plans
  • Maintain valid nursing license with S. C, Board of Nursing

Nice To Haves

  • Health care or related experience.
  • Knowledge of nursing procedures, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices, basic human anatomy.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services, to, but not limited to ACT patients, Long-Acting Injections patients, assess the health, social, psychiatric and medical needs of Center patients; administer scheduled intramuscular medications to patients as ordered by prescribers; monitor patients regularly for beneficial effects, side effects, and other medication related issues, and develop strategies to maximize taking medications as prescribed.
  • Complete clinical documentation using collaborative documentation and ensure services are documented in accordance with OMH/QA requirements.
  • Engage in health promotion, prevention, and education activities.
  • Ensure patients are seen in accordance with their needs (medical/psychiatric appointments).
  • Participate in clinical supervision and daily treatment team meetings.
  • Comply with Corporate Compliance, Policy and Risk Management Plan. Ensure timely completion of prior authorizations. Pursue professional development through collegial consultation, continued education, and licensure.
