About The Position

The Registered Nurse 2 applies professional knowledge and employs specialized skills to facilitate efficient operations and to provide quality medical care to a student population focusing on preventative maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and medical assistants. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with all areas of the SHC, and be committed to advancing the divisional priorities of commitment to quality, communicating a sense of home, and designing with everyone in mind, and cultivating a working relationship with Our Lady of the Lake Health.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:
  • One year of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing; OR
  • A master's degree in nursing or public health.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Student Care - 60%: Performs professional and technical nursing duties, including assessment of student's physical condition and behavior. Makes independent nursing decisions based on these findings and collaborates/communicates with medical providers. Performs a variety of clinical nursing skills within scope of practice, including administering injections, assisting with procedures according to provider's orders, monitoring patients for any adverse effects/reactions to treatment provided, and follow up care per policy. Effectively utilizes the electronic health record for billing, scheduling, and compliance purposes.
  • Case Management & Education - 30%: Performs triage and teletriage in accordance with established protocols. Provides education to students regarding preventive care, self care related to all illness/injury and health maintenance. Performs prior authorizations and referrals to community resources. Supports programming and outreach efforts. Cross trains to assist in Specialty Clinic, GYN Clinic, and Injection Clinic as needed.
  • Quality Control - 5%: Participates in process improvement initiatives and accreditation efforts, including quality improvement studies, chart reviews, and required annual training for the department and the university. Attends regular meetings.
  • Other Duties as Assigned - 5%: Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and supervisor. This includes but is not limited to efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including engaging in in-service opportunities for the division, and other special projects.
