About The Position

The University of Miami is seeking a Registered Nurse to assess assigned patients and evaluate plans, including documentation of nursing care. The nurse will report symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions and vital signs, modify treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses, conditions, and physician orders, and review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests to assess patients’ conditions. The role involves consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans, preparing patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, and providing psychological support to nurture a compassionate environment. The nurse will perform appropriate patient tests, safely administer medications, maintain accurate records, communicate care plans to patients and families, and use best practices for patient care transitions. The position requires planning, prioritizing, and adjusting assignments to accomplish goals, adapting to changing work demands, and safely operating medical equipment. The nurse will also serve as a preceptor for new staff, providing feedback and adhering to University policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
  • Registered Nurse License.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Excellent patient experience skills.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Responsibilities

  • Assess assigned patients and evaluate plans including documentation of nursing care.
  • Report symptoms and changes in patients’ condition and vital signs.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses, conditions, and physician orders.
  • Review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests to assess patient’s condition.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals related to assigned patients.

  • Consider patient age and culture during treatments and provide needed information regarding treatment plans.
  • Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
  • Perform appropriate patient tests and safely administer medications.
  • Maintain accurate records related to medications and treatments.
  • Communicate plan of care in a timely manner to patients and families.
  • Use best practices for transition of patient care.
  • Assist in discharge planning using available resources.
  • Plan, prioritize, and adjust assignments to accomplish goals.
  • Adapt to changing work demands and environment.
  • Safely operate medical equipment.
  • Serve as a preceptor and assist new staff in the provision of care.
  • Provide concise and constructive feedback when needed.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures.
