The nurse modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses, conditions, and physician orders. Responsibilities include reviewing, evaluating, and reporting diagnostic tests to assess the patient's condition, consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals related to assigned patients, and preparing patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments. The role requires consideration of patient age and culture during treatments and providing necessary information regarding treatment plans. The nurse nurtures a compassionate environment by providing psychological support, performs appropriate patient tests, and safely administers medications within the scope of practice. Accurate records related to medications and treatments must be maintained as per regulatory bodies, policies, procedures, and physician orders. Communication of the plan of care in a timely manner to patients, families, and team members is essential, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines (i.e., HIPAA). The nurse uses available resources to assist in discharge planning, plans, prioritizes, and adjusts assignments to accomplish goals and render superior patient care, and seeks assistance when needed. The role also includes safely operating medical equipment, serving as a preceptor to assist new staff in acclimating to the healthcare environment, and adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures.
