About The Position

The University of Miami is seeking a Registered Nurse to assess assigned patients and evaluate plans, including documentation of nursing care. The nurse will report symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions and vital signs, modify treatment plans as indicated, and review diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions. The role involves consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals, preparing patients for examinations and treatments, and providing psychological support. The nurse will also administer medications, maintain accurate records, communicate care plans, and assist in discharge planning. The position requires adapting to changing work demands and safely operating medical equipment. Additionally, the nurse will serve as a preceptor for new staff and provide feedback as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse License.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Excellent patient experience skills.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Responsibilities

  • Assess assigned patients and evaluate plans including documentation of nursing care.
  • Report symptoms and changes in patients’ condition and vital signs.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses, conditions, and physician orders.
  • Review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests to assess patient’s condition.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals related to assigned patients.
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Consider patient age and culture during treatments and provide information regarding treatment plans.
  • Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
  • Perform appropriate patient tests and safely administer medications.
  • Administer and maintain accurate records related to medications and treatments.
  • Communicate plan of care in a timely manner to patients and families.
  • Use best practices for transition of patient care.
  • Plan, prioritize, and adjust assignments to accomplish goals.
  • Safely operate medical equipment.
  • Serve as a preceptor and assist new staff in the provision of care.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures.
