The New Graduate RN Residency Program at Banner Health has received the accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP). Banner Health’s New Nurse Experience (NNE) provides a collaborative learning environment where you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and transition from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health. The Banner Health New Nurse Experience is a full-time Registered Nurse position that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a fully competent, professional nurse at Banner Health. This program provides a collaborative learning environment in which you can refine your nursing skills, enhance your knowledge, and develop new personal and professional relationships. Successful candidates will be placed in specific units at Banner Health facilities to be clinically mentored by unit staff and educators. The expectation is that you will stay on your NNE unit for at least 12 months to get a full and comprehensive training experience! New Grads will also need to live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into. Most new nurses will work three 12 hour shifts, which will include weekend and holiday rotations with other staff members. This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and in accordance with standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under their direction. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients. Join our Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Pediatric Surgery department at Banner Children's Hospital at Desert and be part of our amazing team of professionals! Our state of the art facility and department specialize in providing excellent care to patients with diverse range of childhood cancer and blood disorders, and for pediatric patient recovering from a wide variety of surgical procedures. Our unit consists of an active 24 bed unit with diverse patient populations, with a focus on a family centered care model with an interdisciplinary team approach. Our care team includes Pediatric hematologist/Oncologists, Pediatric Hospitalists, Pediatric Surgeons, Nutritionists, Case Management, Social Services, PT/OT, Pharmacists, and Child-Life Specialists. We are a member and active participant in the Children’s Oncology Group. As a Registered Nurse in our Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Pediatric Surgery department, you will have the opportunity to care for pediatric patients spanning from neonate to adult with a diverse range childhood cancer and blood disorders, as well as patients receiving care from our surgical specialties including orthopedics, urology, plastics, maxillofacial, neurosurgical, otolaryngology, and pediatric general surgery. Our dedicated Registered Nurses are actively involved in department shared leadership, quality/safety and process improvement teams, and receive support for completion of APHON certification program as soon as it is available.

Requirements

  • Recent or Upcoming graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary/interim RN license in state of practice, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice.
  • Current BLS card (through either American Heart Association, Red Cross, or ASHI) or ability to obtain certification before a start date.
  • No More than 12 months of RN experience.
  • Live within a reasonable commute distance of the facility they are hired into.
  • Maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.
  • For Home Health setting: ability to operate personal vehicle, possess a valid driver's license, and maintain active auto insurance coverage.
  • For Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, Banner Home Care/Hospice or Boswell Skilled Nursing Facility: must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
  • For Banner MD Anderson on the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus: must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
  • For Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit: must possess a Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
  • For any Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health role in Arizona: must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN is preferred.
  • Previous healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Experience in the clinical area for which he or she is applying is desired.
  • Professional certification preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs.
  • Review patient history and physical with patient/family and assure completion within appropriate timeframe.
  • Review available information obtained by other health care team members.
  • Review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers.
  • Complete assessment and reassessments according to patient need and as outlined in policy.
  • Formulate a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family and health team input.
  • Initiate a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data and the medical plan of care.
  • Develop realistic, measurable goals for patient in conjunction with the patient/family.
  • Consider the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age specific and educational needs of the patient in the plan of care.
  • Plan care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Review and revise the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation of the patient’s status.
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the activities of the health care team.
  • Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Delegate appropriately, and provide nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel.
  • Promote continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided.
  • Evaluate the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revise the plan of care as needed.
  • Evaluate patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members.
  • Evaluate patient's response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record.
  • Ensure documentation is legible, timely and in accordance with policy.
  • Ensure documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient's response to treatment.
  • Note physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership.
  • Interact and participate in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors.
  • Promote/support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
  • Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care.
  • Actively participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes.
  • Participate in professional organizations.
  • Supervise staff and work flow of the department (in some roles).
  • Interact with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient.
  • Interact with other health care providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify information.
  • Work with clergy to provide spiritual support.
  • Synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.
