Requirements

• Current state licensure/certification, if required by state.
• Current registration by the Commission on Dietetics Registration required.

• One (1) year of work experience in a facility setting with clinical responsibilities or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

• Provides quality nutritional care to patients such as the development, implementation and monitoring of Medical Nutrition Therapy.
• Works collaboratively, serves as a nutritional resource, and provides nutritional education to the NTR transdisciplinary team, patients, and families to ensure implement nutrition care plans and maintain departmental standards.
• Perform nutrition assessments and re-assessments, identifies nutrition goals and interventions, monitors and evaluates patient progress as needed.
• Provides clear and concise medical record documentation
• Monitor enteral nutrition support regimens as needed in conjunction with pharmacy and the medical staff.
• Collaborates with Speech Therapy regarding diet progression and transitional feeding to meet nutritional needs.
• Consider religious, cultural and ethnic factors in development of nutrition care plans.
• Evaluate potential food/drug interactions, and/or herb/supplement interactions.
• Provides nutrition education/counseling as appropriate
• Serves as a consultant to develop and implement educational programs for patients and staff.
• Works with the patient and familyto identify educational needs, achievable goals and provides patient education.
• Serves as a resource to the NTR transdisciplinary team regarding evidence-based nutrition practice
• Serve as a resource to the NTR transdisciplinary team to assure the nutritional goals are implemented.
• Advises the team regarding any special preparation techniques to be used for modified diets
• Participate in developing, planning and standardizing menus.
• Reviews and approves general and therapeutic menus.
• Reviews and approves menu substitutions.
• Keeps current with nutritional practices and theories.
• Maintains current professional registration requirements (i.e., Professional Portfolio, self-development and continuing education).
• Demonstrates interest in continuing education, academics or specialized certification to further enhance professional skills
• Performs other duties as assigned.
