About The Position

The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Registered dietitian (RD) is responsible for nutritional assessments for the CF population from newborn through adulthood at both The Albany Medical College Pediatric and Adult Programs. Registered Dietitian Monday through Friday 08:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. No weekends/holidays Primary location is 22 New Scotland Ave Albany As part of the CF care team, the RD is expected to attend meetings, collaborate with quality improvement projects, develop community resources, and participate in the pediatric “Prizes for Pounds” weight gain initiative. This individual should be motivated and work well within a multidisciplinary team. Some of the specific job responsibilities are detailed below, many tasks need to be performed in-person as encounter-related tasks and others are tasks occurring outside direct patient care (this list is not an exhaustive list and may include other tasks not specifically identified at this time):

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field
  • Registered Dietitian as delineated by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Prior clinical experience in either acute care or outpatient setting
  • Maintenance of continuing education requirements for dietetic registration.
  • Computer literacy ( minimum Outlook, Word, Excel, EHR)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with patients and staff from diverse cultural, educational, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Exceptional time management skills; self-starter and team player.

Responsibilities

  • Review of current vital signs (BMI and growth parameters) and trends over time with increased attention to patients with BMI < 50th%
  • Development of a detailed nutrition-questionnaire to include assessments of intake, vitamin and pancreatic enzyme supplementation, disordered eating behaviors, eating disorders, food insecurity, and other nutrition-specific concerns
  • Champion and coordinate annual oral glucose tolerance testing for all age-appropriate patients
  • For patients with CF-related diabetes, champion, and coordinate with Pediatric Endocrinology in dietary and glucose control counseling
  • Partner with inpatient care teams to optimize nutrition of patients with CF during hospitalizations
  • Follow-up telephone or video encounters to monitor progress as deemed appropriate
  • Recommendations for nutritional supplements including gastrostomy tube feedings in partnership with physicians and nurse practitioners
  • Participate in center, local community and national events/resources including: Attend the North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference, an international conference held every fall where there are RD-specific educational topics and opportunities to collaborate and network with other CF care center RDs
  • Join the CF Foundation RD listserv to stay up to date on CF-specific conversations and concerns related to nutrition
  • Contribute to our monthly center newsletter, develop patient and caregiver nutritional education materials, and support/plan/attend CF family center education events
  • Contribute to on-going quality-improvement projects
