About The Position

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking a Registered Diagnostic Sonographer for the Children's Ambulatory Echo department. This part-time position involves utilizing ultrasound equipment to perform diagnostic procedures, producing visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow for interpretation by a physician. Responsibilities include scheduling patients, maintaining equipment, reporting failures, and performing quality assurance.

Requirements

  • Meet educational and experience requirements for registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or ARRT Certified with Sonogram Endorsement.
  • ARMDS or CCI registration in the area(s) of specialization or ARRT Certified with Sonogram Endorsement.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound physics and instrumentation.
  • Patient management skills.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to allay patient anxiety.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations utilizing special equipment and devices.
  • Explains testing procedures to patients and obtains relevant medical history.
  • Selects appropriate equipment settings and positions patients for optimal diagnostic results.
  • Views, records, and analyzes images, judging their suitability for diagnostic purposes.
  • Communicates findings to appropriate personnel and maintains imaging data records.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and equipment, reporting failures to the supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient safety and provides comfort to patients.
  • Promotes continuous improvement in workplace safety and infection control practices.
