About The Position

This position will encompass several areas of activity, with the major component devoted to patient care and clinical support for Lyon College School of Dental Medicine (LCSDM) patient care clinics, working alongside student doctors in an educational clinic environment, supporting student doctors educational clinical journey, supervising student progress and assessment, and faculty calibration. Duties include, but are not limited to, teaching at the preclinical and clinical levels that includes the supervision of DMD students as they conduct simulated and live patient care activities in the School’s simulation and comprehensive care clinics. This position serves as an expert in preventative oral health care for patients of the school. Responsibilities perform oral health care assessments that include obtaining and reviewing patient health histories, taking/recording blood pressure and other vital signs, complete dental charting, oral cancer screening, and comprehensive periodontal assessment. expose, and process dental radiographs. perform routine oral prophylaxes and nonsurgical periodontal therapy. administer local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia (if licensed for these expanded functions); placement of locally delivered antimicrobials. remove plaque and calculus —soft and hard deposits—from above and below the gumline. apply cavity-preventive agents, such as topical fluorides and sealants, to the teeth. educate patients proper oral hygiene techniques to maintain good oral health. counsel patients about plaque control and developing individualized at-home oral hygiene programs. counsel patients on the importance of good nutrition for maintaining optimal oral health. take alginate impressions, pour & trim study models, and fabricate custom trays and mouthguards/bite guards. perform appropriate treatment documentation in the electronic record. maintain a recall/recare system for dental hygiene patients in the clinic; supervise dental students during simulation clinic and live patient care clinic; assist with clinic business administration, as needed (answer telephone/return calls, insurance verification, schedule appointments, check-in and walk-out patients, and other administrative tasks as assigned). Requirements

  • Dental Hygiene degree from a CODA accredited US or Canadian dental hygiene school or equivalent
