About The Position

The Registered Dental Hygienist is responsible for delivering high-quality preventive and periodontal care while supporting the operational and production goals of the hygiene department. The hygienist ensures patients receive comprehensive clinical care, education on oral health, and proper scheduling for ongoing preventive treatment. The hygienist plays a key role in identifying periodontal disease, supporting treatment acceptance, and maintaining a productive hygiene schedule.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Dental Hygienist license
  • Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program
  • Current CPR certification
  • Knowledge of periodontal therapy and preventive dentistry
  • Strong communication and patient education skills

Responsibilities

  • Attend the daily morning huddle and review hygiene production goals.
  • Review the daily hygiene schedule to identify patient needs.
  • Identify patients who may require: Periodontal therapy Fluoride treatments Sealants Adjunctive services
  • Ensure the hygiene operatory is fully stocked and prepared.
  • Review patient medical histories prior to treatment.
  • Escort patients to the operatory and review medical history updates.
  • Take necessary radiographs and intraoral images.
  • Perform periodontal charting when indicated.
  • Provide hygiene procedures including: Adult prophylaxis Periodontal maintenance Scaling and root planing (SRP)
  • Accurately document all clinical findings in Denticon/Dentacon.
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and preventive care.
  • Discuss periodontal health, disease progression, and risk factors.
  • Recommend appropriate home care products and routines.
  • Reinforce doctor treatment recommendations when appropriate.
  • Identify areas of dental or periodontal concern.
  • Communicate findings to the doctor for diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Identify opportunities for: Periodontal therapy Fluoride Sealants Night guards Other preventive services.
  • Maintain a full and productive hygiene schedule.
  • Ensure every patient schedules their next hygiene appointment before leaving.
  • Schedule recare visits at appropriate 3–6 month intervals.
  • Encourage family scheduling when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with the Schedule Flow Coordinator to maintain hygiene productivity.
  • Break down and clean the operatory after each patient.
  • Follow all OSHA, CDC, and office sterilization protocols.
  • Disinfect clinical surfaces thoroughly.
  • Prepare the operatory efficiently for the next patient.
  • Ensure all clinical notes are completed.
  • Review the next day's hygiene schedule.
  • Confirm upcoming hygiene appointments are scheduled appropriately.
  • Stock the hygiene operatory for the following day.
  • Complete sterilization and instrument processing.
  • Communicate any patient concerns to the doctor or office manager.
  • The hygienist is responsible for supporting hygiene department metrics, including: Daily hygiene production goals Adjunctive services completed Periodontal treatment opportunities identified Additional treatment referred to the doctor
  • The hygienist may also assist in tracking periodontal treatment and SRP scheduling to ensure proper patient care and follow-through.
