About The Position

The Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for preparing the patient for treatment and assisting the dentist with various clinical procedures. This role involves supporting and monitoring patient flow in the back office, ensuring that all necessary information is available for patient visits, and assisting in the distribution of patients among dental providers. The assistant is also responsible for performing various initial aspects of the patient visit, including obtaining vital signs, reviewing health records, and documenting information in the electronic health record. Additionally, the assistant operates dental radiographic equipment, disinfects and prepares the operatory, and assists the dentist during various dental treatment procedures.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Dental Assistant in the state of California.
  • Proof of completing a Radiation Safety Course.
  • Ability to prepare complex documents in Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel for data review and compilation.
  • Ability to create basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Coronal polish certificate is recommended.
  • Experience in a dental office setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support and monitor patient flow in the back office.
  • Scrub appointments in advance to ensure proper lab cases, finances, and information is available for the patient visit.
  • Assist in the distribution of patients among dental providers, including walk-ins.
  • Keep patients informed of wait times and ensure proper flow in the system.
  • Understand general front office workflows and support the front office when needed.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Greet patients and escort them to the dental operatory.
  • Obtain vital signs and patient data.
  • Review health records with patients and update clinical information.
  • Perform documentation in the patient’s electronic health record.
  • Ensure completion of consent forms and signatures.
  • Operate dental radiographic equipment.
  • Disinfect and prepare the operatory, and set up trays and dental armamentarium for treatment.
  • Perform supportive dental procedures under general supervision of a dentist.
  • Sterilize instruments under infection control protocol.
  • Assist the dentist during various dental treatment procedures.
  • Ensure patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
  • Provide patients with instructions for oral care following treatment.
  • Provide oral health education and oral hygiene instruction as needed.
  • Explain dental treatment or procedures to patients as necessary.
  • Take impressions for diagnostic models and other dental applications.
  • Apply non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents.
  • Remove post-extraction and periodontal dressings.
  • Apply topical fluoride after scaling and polishing.
  • Place and remove rubber dams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required for quality of care.
  • Communicate with patients and suppliers regarding appointments and supplies.
  • Prepare and stock dental operatories and monitor supplies.
  • Discard biohazard waste and sharps.
  • Account for weekly testing and cleaning of sterilization equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and timely logs.
  • Assist in other operatories or in front office as needed.
  • Perform advanced duties under general supervision of a dentist.
