About The Position

The Registered Dental Assistant II at Arkansas Children's assists the dentist in the treatment and care of dental patients and educates patients in oral hygiene. This full-time position requires 2 years of RDA experience and involves working 40 hours a week over 4 variable days, typically from 7:30 AM to 6 PM, with potential for earlier start times if scheduled for the operating room. The role includes a variety of intermediate-level patient care and laboratory duties, working chairside as dentists examine and treat patients.

Requirements

  • Certificate from a college program or technical school approved by the AR State Board of Dental Examiners.
  • 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification from the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners.

  • Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA) certification from the Dental Assistant National Board, Inc.
  • Certified Preventive Functions Dental Assistant (CPFDA) certification from the Dental Assistant National Board, Inc.
  • 1 year of pediatric experience.

Responsibilities

  • Make patients comfortable in the dental chair and prepare them for treatment.
  • Obtain dental records from patients.
  • Hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients' mouths dry and clear using suction or other devices.
  • Assist the dentist in the operating room as directed.
  • Disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.
  • Prepare materials for impressions and restorations, take dental x-rays, and process x-ray film as directed by a dentist.
  • Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Handle instrument cleaning, sterilization/disinfection, and re-circulation.
  • Review consent and medical history prior to treatment.
  • Maintain dental records documenting assessments and care provided and perform audits as assigned.
  • Assist in patient/family education through written and oral explanation.
  • Perform oral hygiene within scope of practice.
  • Be cross-trained to 2 other specialties within the department.
  • Stay knowledgeable of all policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
