About The Position

The Registered Clinical Dietician Educator is responsible for DM and MNT instruction, documentation, and follow-up on patients identified through physician referral. Conduct quality and effective diabetes self-management and medical nutrition therapy education, either individually or in a class setting. Accountable for ongoing evaluation of program, performance improvements, physician and patient phone calls/correspondence. Primarily responsible for out-patient appointments. Develops, implements, and evaluates community educational events. Participates in community diabetes screenings. Maintains ADCES or ADA Diabetes Recognition Program status.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a related field required.
  • 1 -3 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist) credential required in the state of employment
  • LD (Licensed Dietician) credential required in the state of employment.
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist or BC-ADM is required within 24 months of the hire date.
  • NPPES NPI Registry completed with active NPI Number for billable services.

Nice To Haves

  • CPT (Certified Pump Trainer) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Provides quality, evidence-based outpatient diabetes self-management and medical nutrition therapy instruction in group or individual settings based on assessed needs and consistent with ADA or ADCES guidelines.
  • Instructs according to age-specific guidelines & medical conditions. Applies AADE7 self-care behaviors to educate on and initiate behavior change
  • Maintains/supports ADA Diabetes Recognition Program status by assisting with ADA or ADCES annual accreditation and related tasks.
  • Conduct self-management classes that are conducive to learning, resulting in satisfactory or better evaluations.
  • Perform patient DM or MNT instruction per physician orders.
  • Provide technology-based device training and complete continual education as needed on new and existing technology related to diabetes and medical nutrition therapy. Assist with technology paperwork.
  • As needed, provides family support & education during appointments and in the interim.
  • Refers to self-management classes when appropriate.
  • Maintain open communication
  • Document and evaluate the teaching and learning process on the patient's chart within system-established guidelines as well as ADA or ADCES guidelines.
  • Provides professional and timely information to the MD regarding patient progress and status.
  • Develops, implements, and participates in community diabetes and educational programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of community outreach.
  • Assists with diabetes education in-services for nursing staff and physicians.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary meetings with the Diabetes Advisory Board committee and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with diabetes.
  • Precepts and assists with education for dietetic interns and other health-care professionals as needed.
  • Assists with training of new CHRISTUS associates and providers as needed.
  • Compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Facilitates participant access to services.
  • Strives for the highest standards of productivity and quality instruction.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
