Registered Cardiovascular Sonographer .8 FTE 1st shift FTE/Scheduled Weekly Hours: 0.80 / 32 / 1st Shift (United States of America)Tuesday-Friday. 1st Shift PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Performs cardiac echocardiograms and/or other studies to provide information for use in diagnostics, as ordered by the provider. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Performs diagnostic cardiac studies: Explains procedures to reduce anxieties and obtains patient cooperation and signatures as needed. Obtains pertinent patient history, including medications and blood pressures. Accepts/assesses patient condition to assure the best patient care, special requirements, and handling for the comfort, safety and benefit of the patient. Notifies physician or registered nurse of critical values Assists in evaluating the urgency of the patient needs when scheduling for tests. Prepares and operates ultrasound equipment, adjusting controls as needed to obtain quality studies. Cleans equipment and changes bedding after each procedure. 2. Patient Records and billing Completes all billing charges, notes, and other required paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. May be responsible for coding signs and symptoms, diseases, operations, and procedures in accordance to ICD-10 and CPT coding principles to assure medical and other insurance coverage. Responsible for obtaining patient waivers when procedures are not deemed medically necessary. Performs various clerical duties, including but not limited to, scheduling patients, proofing and distributing reports, transcribing procedures in the log book, and working with the departmental statistics 3. Patient education and service: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. Relies extensively on the knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and effects of disease on the heart and blood vessels. Provides handouts for patient education which is pertinent to their particular risk factors or disease. 4. Quality and Safety Assures patient is safe from exposure and falls during testing. Performs daily/monthly maintenance on equipment as needed in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines. Reports any issues with equipment to manager immediately. Performs studies and cleans equipment appropriately in order to minimize exposure to patients, self and others. 5. Quality Assurance of department and performance improvement Obtains reports needed for follow-up quality assurance (QA) per guidelines of accreditation. Assists with maintaining QA logs on monthly/quarterly basis. Assists with obtaining monthly stats. Assists in keeping Dashboard current, participating in projects. Works with the medical director in cardiovascular services 6. Professional Development Maintains licensure requirements, seeking opportunities for further education in the cardiovascular field. Maintains current certification in BLS.
