About The Position

Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School (SSMA) is seeking Registered Behavior Technician for each House (ie., primary, lower education and upper elementary) to provide best-practices behavior support strategies, techniques and tools to all staff members for use in effectively and efficiently addressing student behavior within the school community. In addition, the RBT will be expected to provide direct behavior support services to students in the classroom, lunch, recess and other activities.. This is a 10-month position. SSMA’s mission is to provide an exemplary, inclusive Montessori, educational program that includes all students. Our developmentally appropriate, student and family-centered educational approach nurtures students to expand their developmental skills, in order to build a foundation for lifelong learning. SSMA serves students in grades PK3-6.

Requirements

  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Therapeutic Aggression Control Techniques (TACT2) current training
  • Associates Degree & passed the ParaPro Exam, required
  • Be accredited registered behavior technician or have successfully completed the 40 hour RBT training course and competency exam and be able to pass the BACB RBT exam within 60 days.
  • Experienced working with individuals with behavioral and academic challenges.
  • Have prior work or volunteer experience with children who have special needs.
  • Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Have a track record of being a team player and community minded.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Adherence to a high level of professional and ethical standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with the Guide/Lead Teacher , Associate Guides, Licensed Counselor in planning and implementing effective behavioral strategies and positive supportive strategies for all ( and assigned ) students.
  • Maintaining the safety of all students and acting as a positive role model.
  • Effectively de-escalating and redirecting students, when required.
  • Collaborate with Lead Teacher and BCBA in planning for: classroom environment, natural environment teaching, instruction, behavior management strategies, and reinforcement systems.
  • Regularly collect data to track students’ progress.
  • Follow Attendance Attach Team and Behavior Protocols to respond to students' behavior appropriately and successfully.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Guide/Teacher, special service providers (speech, psychologist, PT, OT), MLL teacher, and other staff members to effectively address student needs in the classroom.
  • Support the creation of a classroom culture and environment that develops and nurtures the emotional, cognitive and social abilities of the students.
  • Engage parents and families in their student's learning and act as an ambassador for the school in the community.
  • Attend and participate in school events outside of regular school hours.
  • Facilitate In-School reflection activities.
  • Implement a school-wide behavior improvement plan
  • Collect incident report data and follow up
  • Other duties as assigned.
