The Registered and Licensed Professional Nurse position is a full-time role located at Broadway Academy and Elmira City School District, specifically designed to provide one-on-one medical care for a student in a special education setting. This position requires either a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to assist with the medical needs of a student placed in a BOCES classroom. The role is structured around a 7-hour day, following a 10-month school calendar, aligning with the academic year. In this capacity, the nurse will be responsible for addressing various medical aspects of the student's daily life, which includes assistance with daily living skills such as toileting, personal care, feeding, and ensuring safety during transitions. The nurse will also be tasked with redirection, task initiation, communication, and supervision during sensory activities and routines. A critical component of this role involves daily tube feeding, which requires constant monitoring during and after feeding sessions, as well as regular assessments of the student's respiratory needs. The nurse will work under the direction of an RN, dispensing medications, completing Medicaid paperwork, and assisting with the student's arrival and departure. Additionally, the nurse will help the student carry out prescribed physical exercises and follow established medical protocols. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, emphasizing the need for flexibility and responsiveness to the student's evolving needs.
