Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); additionally, any undergraduate education desirable, or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of the API (Associate Personal Insurance) Designation course is required in current Underwriting Manager position with continued personal development to meet the company goals.

Nice To Haves

  • CPCU or other insurance industry designation is desirable for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day to day underwriting operations by establishing priorities, scheduling and assigning work, adjusting schedules when necessary to meet completion dates, and assisting others with resolving complex problems while ensuring adherence to underwriting standards and objectives.
  • Responsible for evaluating, preparing and conducting semi-annual and annual performance reviews for Sr. Underwriters and Underwriters.
  • Actively manage underwriting staff to deliver timely and high quality service to assigned agents. Use objective setting and performance evaluation processes to ensure employees understand the expectations, receive regular feedback and are appropriately rewarded.
  • Deal decisively with performance and/or conduct issues and document HR files in a timely manner.
  • Participate with senior management in underwriting policy and strategy; recommend/implement changes to improve productivity, profitability, growth and the quality of the book of business.
  • Work with IT as required in development of new products and improvements to existing products and processes.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert regarding use of underwriting systems within department.
  • Ensure that staff understands the need for accurate documentation and makes it a priority.
  • Handles and oversees special projects from the Quality Assurance Department when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
