Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Corporate Stroke Program Director, responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach to providing care to stroke patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health care, business, or health related field; and
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Florida; and
  • Maintains a certification in neuroscience or stroke nursing or will obtain within 2 years of hire.
  • Three (3) years of closely related experience

Responsibilities

  • Creates a climate of empowerment and trust in team members, supports participative leadership, and can work comfortably in large and small team settings as a facilitator.
  • Administers and coordinates operational activities and projects as assigned by the Corporate Stroke Program Director.
  • Develops and implements plans with cooperation with the nursing and hospital leadership which addresses specific stroke related metrics and goals.
  • Effectively influences others who do not report to him/her. Demonstrates excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Monitors quality and regulatory standards, while achieving hospital and corporate goals.
  • Develops and maintains effective partnerships with national, state, and local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and community partners in collaboration with the Orlando Health External Affairs team.
  • Serves as a liaison for the hospital nursing leadership council and representative for Corporate Stroke Program on Orlando Health multidisciplinary councils and committees.
  • Establishes and maintains an open and positive working relationship with administrators, medical staff, managers and team members.
  • Assumes day-to-day responsibility for process and performance improvement activities as they relate to nursing and allied health team members. Assists the Stroke Medical Director in carrying out the same function for the physicians.
  • Coordinates the continuum of stroke care, which includes the planning and implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines, monitoring care of in-hospital patients, and serving as a resource for clinical practice.
  • Participates in case review, implements practice guidelines, and directs community stroke education and prevention programs.
  • Monitors clinical processes, outcomes, and system issues related to the quality of care provided; develop quality filters, audits, and case reviews; identifies trends and sentinel events; and helps outline remedial actions while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Serves as a liaison to administration and represents the stroke program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal stroke care.
  • Supervises collection, coding, scoring, and developing processes for validation of data. Facilitate performance improvement activities and trend reports, while protecting confidentiality.
  • Stabilizes the complex network of the many disciplines that work in concert to provide high-quality care. Serves as a regional resource.
  • Participates in the development of stroke care systems at the community, state, or national levels.
  • Completes a minimum of eight stroke-related continuing education hours annually. Reviews current literature on a regular basis; stays current on changes in field; maintains reference materials and updates as required; keeps abreast of relevant reimbursement/payment information.
  • Supervises & collaborates with Clinical Specialist II to ensure data is being collected and analyzed to drive process improvement.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned.
