About The Position

Orlando Health is a 3,200-bed system that includes 15 wholly-owned hospitals and emergency departments; rehabilitation services, cancer institutes, heart institutes, imaging and laboratory services, wound care centers, physician offices for adults and pediatrics, skilled nursing facilities, an in-patient behavioral health facility, home healthcare services in partnership with LHC Group, and urgent care centers in partnership with CareSpot Urgent Care. Position Summary The Regional Security Patrol Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Orlando Health’s facilities, patients, visitors, and staff across a diverse range of clinical and administrative environments. This role involves proactive patrols, rapid incident response, behavioral support, and strategic coordination across multiple sites. Officers operate on foot or in a vehicle (as permitted) and serve as a presence for risk mitigation, customer service, and emergency readiness.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required. An associate degree is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word for report writing.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License (required for vehicle patrol eligibility).
  • Must meet Orlando Health’s driver eligibility standards.
  • Must obtain a State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within 120 days of hire, which must be renewed biannually before the license expires.
  • Must obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within 120 days of hire, which must be renewed annually before the certification expires.
  • Must obtain a Basic Security Officer Certification or higher level of certification through the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety within 120 days of hire and always maintain during employment.
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or healthcare security preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, de-escalation, and crisis management skills.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments with professionalism and tact.
  • Proficient in incident documentation and use of security technology

Responsibilities

  • Conducts interior and exterior patrols of non-hospital facilities, including outpatient clinics, ambulatory centers, administrative buildings, call centers, pharmacies, and urgent care locations.
  • Performs walkthroughs to identify safety, security, and environmental risks; checks for unlocked doors, loitering, suspicious activity, and propped exits.
  • Monitors parking areas to deter theft, vandalism, and unsafe conditions.
  • Dynamically adjusts patrol coverage based on real-time needs, callouts, and under-patrolled areas.
  • Collaborate with dispatch and other security teams to ensure balanced territory response.
  • Operates and monitors access control systems, alarm panels, and badge readers.
  • Ensures after-hours lockups, facility openings, and provides escorts as needed.
  • Provides vehicle escorts upon request and assists staff with jumpstarts or flat tires.
  • Responds to calls for service including disturbances, threats, medical emergencies, and behavioral escalations.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement, fire/rescue, and clinical teams during incidents.
  • Provides scene control, perimeter security, and creates safe spaces during emergencies.
  • Assists with the enforcement of Baker Act and Marchman Act protocols under physician direction.
  • Supports law enforcement with patient/prisoner intake and high-risk patient monitoring.
  • Supports clinical teams during behavioral incidents and difficult conversations.
  • Assists with de-escalation and early intervention to prevent violence or instability.
  • Builds rapport with recurring behavioral health patients and recommends site-specific response plans.
  • Provides compassionate redirection of loiterers or individuals in crisis.
  • Serves as a visible, reassuring presence to enhance the patient and visitor experience.
  • Investigates accidents, preserves evidence, interviews witnesses, and documents findings.
  • Completes detailed incident reports, daily activity logs, and pass-down documentation.
  • Tracks patrol metrics, site visits, and safety observations for leadership dashboards.
  • Participates in after-action reviews, threat assessments, and emergency drills.
  • Maintains compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Conducts scenario-based evaluations and informal coaching on policy adherence.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
