About The Position

The Regional School Social Worker serves in a dual role, providing direct counseling services to students with disabilities while also functioning as a member of the Pupil Appraisal Team. This position supports both student-level social-emotional needs and system-level special education evaluation processes to ensure timely identification, compliance with IDEA requirements, and continuity of services. The role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, time management skills and a working knowledge of bulletin 1508. Pupil Appraisal Team responsibilities extend beyond traditional school-based social work duties and require additional coordination, compliance oversight, and professional judgment.

Requirements

  • Licensure Social Worker by the State of Louisiana
  • Certification as a School Social Worker by the Louisiana Department of Education
  • Experience serving on a multi-disciplinary pupil appraisal evaluation team
  • Experience administering a variety of assessments to identify student needs and providing written reports
  • Ability to meet compliance deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • The ability to multi-task and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling services to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Support students’ social-emotional, behavioral, and functional skill development aligned to IEP goals
  • Participate in IEP meetings, progress reviews, and service documentation
  • Collaborate with special education staff, administrators, and related service providers
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term support for students with disabilities as needed
  • Coordinating and managing special education evaluations in compliance with IDEA and state regulations, as assigned
  • Conducting social history assessments and other evaluation components within the scope of licensure and training
  • Participating in multidisciplinary evaluation planning meetings and eligibility determinations
  • Monitoring and supporting compliance with evaluation timelines and required documentation
  • Collaborating with families, school staff, and outside agencies throughout the evaluation process
  • Supporting Child Find efforts and referral processes
  • Providing consultation to school teams regarding social-emotional, behavioral, and environmental factors impacting student learning
