About The Position

Safety Management Group is a nationally recognized professional service organization that provides workplace safety consulting, training, staffing, program planning, and implementation. Safety Management Group seeks a Regional Safety Advisor – Power & Utilities - Edwardsville to Peoria, IL. The key functions of a Regional Safety Advisor are to prioritize safety, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change. The Advisor in this role will work in a utility construction environment. Our clients trust that our team will do what we say we will. They know to expect nothing less than the highest ethical standards from SMG because we always do what is right. Our team often goes above and beyond the bar. This person will travel to multiple locations throughout Illinois. They will work 40 plus hours per week. Per diem is available for when this person stays out of town. This person will conduct site inspections/observations and will coach the contractor crews. This is a contract-to-hire with our client. Our client will look to bring this person on full-time after 6 months with SMG.

Requirements

  • 3 plus years of safety experience - Utility background preferred
  • T&D experience
  • Be able to work outdoors in all reasonable conditions
  • Proficient with effective email correspondence, electronic document development, creating safety-related communications (bulletins, alerts, etc.), navigating new computer software and applications
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities is critical to success
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team setting
  • Ability to lead meetings and initiatives to drive results
  • Able to drive to multiple areas around the state

  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local

Responsibilities

  • Contractor safety management program implementation
  • Complete quality safety observations, including documentation of findings with a focus on leading indicators
  • Establish, build, and maintain effective relationships with appropriate stakeholders
  • Provide safety leadership for grid enhancement projects
  • Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law and the owner
  • Work to ensure safety requirements are clear to contractors
  • Represent the utility client in meetings
  • Prepare reports in a clear and concise manner
  • Reinforces safety culture with field crews
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures
