About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Wakulla Correctional Institution in the Office of Health Services (Inpatient mental health unit). The mission of the Office of Health Services in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to provide comprehensive, quality healthcare to inmates in a manner that is professional, ethical, and cost-effective. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in a Psychology related field from a postsecondary institution accredited by an accrediting agency or state approved agency by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
  • Must possess at least five-years’ experience providing mental health treatment in a forensic or mental health inpatient or residential unit/hospital beyond internship.
  • Must have experience working with interdisciplinary teams and must be willing to work on-site at Wakulla Correctional Institution.

Responsibilities

  • Inmate Interaction: Spend 75% of time face-to-face with inmates, attending meetings, making rounds, interviewing, and observing group settings.
  • Expert Consultation: Become a subject matter expert on procedures and HSB’s guiding inmate treatment, providing consultation to Wardens and contracted staff.
  • Team Meetings: Attend multidisciplinary team meetings as an observer, reporting concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Issue Identification: Proactively identify and address issues related to mental health treatment access with the Central Office Ombudsman, Warden, and providers.
  • Service Review: Review the Schedule of Mental Health Services to ensure all services are offered before posting.
  • Grievance Assistance: Assist in addressing formal grievances from inmates in mental health units, providing support to the Central Office Ombudsman and wardens.
  • Status Reporting: Provide status reports to assist in analyzing and resolving identified concerns.
  • On-Site Reviews: Conduct weekly rounds, observe mental health services, and perform on-site reviews of therapeutic services, interviewing inmates to identify and address issues.
  • Other duties: identify trends within the inpatient unit, monitor program services, and meet with institutional and Contractor leadership on a weekly basis.
  • RMHO reports directly to the Central Office Ombudsman.
