About The Position

POSITION PURPOSE The Regional Manager of the Transfer Center oversees the coordination of patient transfers across MercyOne’s regional health ministries, strengthening clinical outcomes by minimizing treatment delays, optimizing bed utilization, and supporting patient‑centered care transitions. Serving as the central access point for all ministries, the Regional Manager drives operational excellence and leads systemwide patient transfer initiatives in collaboration with hospital and clinical leadership. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. 2. Effectively leads the transfer center team to ensure compliant, efficient patient transfers by applying standardized protocols, managing daily occupancy levels, and escalating capacity concerns across all facilities. 3. Leads collaborative efforts with senior leadership and regional partners to balance patient volumes across service lines and levels of care, ensuring alignment with patient throughput strategies and organizational priorities. 4. Facilitates inter‑facility transfers and discharges in coordination with clinical teams to ensure timely and efficient patient movement across the region. 5. Champions and operationalize change initiatives that improve patient flow, care delivery, and operational performance across the region. 6. Leverages technology—including electronic health records and real‑time dashboards—to guide staff in optimizing workflows and supporting data‑driven decision‑making. 7. Supports long‑term workforce planning by proactively identifying staffing needs and participating in recruitment efforts. 8. Develops and maintains an engaged team by overseeing effective onboarding, ensuring access to current training resources, fostering regular communication, and addressing emerging concerns that may impact team satisfaction or performance. 9. Maintains productivity levels aligned with Trinity Health benchmarks and ensures efficient resource use by upholding the department staffing plan consistent with operational demands, projected volumes, and required qualifications. 10. Develops, implements, and routinely reviews policies, procedures, and standard work to support patient logistics and transfer operations, ensuring alignment with best practices and compliance with care‑coordination regulations and payer requirements. The most significant duties have been included in this description. Other duties may be assigned, as necessary. Applies new knowledge gained through professional development and industry engagement to strengthen transfer operations and regional performance. 12. Leads and facilitates regional committees and work groups and participates in hospital committees as appropriate to support patient transfers and operational objectives. 13. Other duties as needed and assigned by leadership. 14. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other Trinity Health and MercyOne policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Requirements

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in a health-related, business, or administrative field and 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a complex healthcare environment, effectively manage competing priorities, and implement operational improvements that enhance patient care, staff efficiency, and system performance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications and hospital information systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic health record (EHR) platforms.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in patient logistics, outcomes management, or a relevant clinical area preferred.
  • Familiarity with Epic patient logistics functionality, with the ability to use operational dashboards preferred.
