About The Position

We are looking for an Regional Head of Marine – LatAm based in Miami The Regional Head of Marine - LatAm is responsible for leading a regional Marine portfolio. The role defines and executes the regional Marine strategy, ensuring alignment with global priorities and Allianz North America, while directly managing part of the portfolio and steering it towards sustainable profitability. You will oversee all LatAm Marine's underwriting activities and results across AGCS/AGR and local Operating Entities (OEs), acting as a senior referral point for complex risks and enforcing underwriting discipline, risk appetite and governance standards. You will build capabilities and drive harmonized underwriting processes, tools and portfolio steering practices across the region. You are highly client‑driven and solution‑oriented, and will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with key brokers and clients, leading major negotiations, and supporting strategic deals. You will closely collaborate with OEs to shape country strategies and support execution through active portfolio steering, technical guidance and corrective actions where needed. Your success will be measured by profitable growth of the Marine portfolio, improved portfolio quality and volatility, disciplined underwriting, strong broker and client engagement, and effective collaboration between AGCS/AGR, OEs and global units, in full compliance with regulatory and internal requirements. You will also be response for the following: Operating as a key member of the One Americas team, aligning interests and priorities across North America and Latin America while preserving a clear regional agenda. Driving continued regional expansion, profitably scaling the portfolio into new markets and segments while managing volatility and capacity constraints. Effectively managing within a complex global matrix, reconciling global Marine guidance, regional commercial priorities and local OE realities, and influencing without direct authority. Navigating high levels of ambiguity (governance evolution, changing appetite, organizational change), while providing clear direction, prioritization and stability to teams and stakeholders. Ensuring underwriting quality and portfolio discipline amid growth pressures, maintaining technical excellence, robust portfolio steering and compliance with global standards. Fostering strong teamwork and collaboration across US‑based underwriting teams, LatAm OEs, Allianz NA and global units, breaking silos and enabling joint solutions for key clients. Strengthening broker and client partnerships in a competitive and consolidating market, defending and growing share through differentiated solutions and service. Attracting, developing and retaining talent in a scarce‑skills market, building bench strength and succession for critical roles. Anticipating and responding to regulatory, ESG and logistical trends affecting Marine, Inland Cargo exposures in the region.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in in Marine underwriting management, including the ability to delegate tasks, steer team direction/goals, etc.;
  • Well recognized long term relationship building with brokers at peer group level and within the local market;
  • Significant experience in leadership and development of direct teams internationally and within complex global matrix environments;
  • Expert understanding of legal and regulatory framework;
  • Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards relevant to Marine business;
  • Design, develop and implement consistent, robust contract wordings;
  • Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation.
  • Ability to analyze highly complex data, from multiple sources, in detail, identifying and resolving issues before they transpire;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with an ability to develop and positively influence key, strategic position holders across locations and functions;
  • Ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority.
  • Bachelor’s degree in in Economics / Law / Engineering or appropriate discipline;
  • A deep knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), with the ability to leverage AI-driven insights to shape strategic decisions and drive innovation across the organization;
  • Proficiency in Spanish is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and teams in the Latin American region.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing a regional team, in a matrix management of functional reports
  • Managing cost center budget within plan.
  • Developing and executing the Marine LatAm underwriting strategy, including supporting the development of global Underwriting Marine strategy, in line with AGCS/AGR CUO and supporting the development of cross LoB regional strategy, in line with R&M and Regional CEO.
  • Steering and controlling regional Marine portfolio to drive achievement of financial targets (e.g., full combined ratio)
  • Driving underwriting planning process and monitoring adherence to plan, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Proactively liaising with functional areas to review performance of end to end Underwriting life cycle.
  • Ensuring underwriting consistency, underwriting discipline and adherence to all corporate guidelines and authority levels, including rules and principles, underwriting authorities, corporate governance rules, and local regulatory framework.
  • Referral/case underwriting of key clients as required.
  • Proactively supporting development and implementation of new and modified products, as well as implementation of pricing tools.
  • Proactively supporting acquisition of new business and retention of existing business (including client and broker negotiations where necessary).
  • Coordinating with OEs to drive successful execution of strategic plan and communicating regional Marine strategy externally.
  • Maintaining executive contacts and accompanying the underwriting of all core or strategic accounts.
  • Positively representing AGCS/AGR internally within the Allianz Group, and externally to the market.
  • Proactively driving involvement of functional areas in the underwriting process, including ARC, Claims, and Operations.
