About The Position

The Regional Food Rescue Manager leads food donation efforts across an assigned region, building and managing partnerships with donor and partner agencies that increase access to high-quality, nutritious food for communities facing food insecurity. This role strengthens existing donor relationships, develops new partnerships, and collaborates cross-functionally to identify outlets to support food distribution. Success in this role includes increasing food recovery volume, strengthening partner engagement, and improving program efficiency and compliance. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills across diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data to inform decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
  • Ability to navigate complex or sensitive situations with professionalism
  • Proficiency with standard business software and data management tools
  • Commitment to a field-based role, with 50–60% of time spent visiting and supporting donor and partner agency locations across San Mateo County.
  • Possession of a valid California driver license and a clean DMV record.
  • Willingness to drive personal vehicle, as necessary.
  • Compensation for business mileage to be reimbursed at standard IRS rates
  • Willingness to travel within Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties and work occasional flexible hours

Responsibilities

  • Partnership Management Build, manage and strengthen regional donor-agency partnerships, monitor performance, assess volume opportunities, and strengthen engagement to increase and improve donation opportunities
  • Coordinate and collaborate with donor partners at both corporate and store levels, including direct engagement with store receivers to ensure program success.
  • Monitor partnership performance, identify growth opportunities, and increase engagement
  • Foster strong communication and collaboration between donors and agencies to support long-term, sustainable partnerships
  • Provide guidance, training, and performance management for donors, agencies, and volunteers to ensure program standards and food safety requirements
  • Program Operations Strategically pair donors and agencies to optimize partnerships based on capacity, needs, preferences and operational constraints
  • Establish and implement program standards to ensure compliance, safe food handling, and effective resource utilization
  • Create, monitor, and refine food rescue schedules for donors and agencies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges related to logistics, food safety, and transportation
  • Growth & Strategy Identify, recruit and onboard new agencies and donors to expand the program reach
  • Lead pilot projects from design through execution, including planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Manage budgets, track outcomes, and present insights and findings to leadership
  • Training & Communication Develop and deliver training programs and materials for donors, agency partners, volunteers, and interns (in-person and virtual)
  • Data & Continuous Improvement Analyze program data and trends to identify opportunities and challenges, measure impact, and inform strategy
  • Pilot projects and track key metrics to measure impact and support continuous improvement efforts
  • Collaboration & External Engagement Partner with Programs, Operations, and other internal teams to solve challenges and implement scalable solutions
  • Represent Second Harvest of Silicon Valley at meetings, conferences, and community events
  • Stay informed on industry trends and best practices through engagement with peer organizations and networks including Feeding America
  • Partner with the County Sustainability Department to strengthen collaboration, share data ensure alignment with sustainability efforts, and expand food recovery opportunities.
  • Monitor relevant legislative and policy developments that may impact food rescue strategies
  • Support external engagement through presentations, tours, and collaboration with Marketing on storytelling
  • Motivate and influence donors and agencies to enhance their performance via recognition, highlighting their efforts and meaningful collaboration
  • Identify and explore options for improving the food rescue program to ensure that it is accessible, equitable and inclusive
