About The Position

Complete responsibility for all operations activities in a distribution center environment. Responsible for operational excellence and process improvement; ensuring customer expectations are met or exceeded. The Manager also oversees talent acquisition, development, and retention of associates. Operates as a strategic partner of Summit’s sales leadership in driving revenue growth and profitability goals while working within established operating budgets. This position will work closely with all levels of Operational Leadership to leverage analysis, modeling, and forecasting ensuring the Distribution Center has the capacity, speed, and cost-to-serve characteristics necessary to meet the demands of assigned Service Centers, specialized divisions, and customers.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of distribution operations (i.e., shipping, receiving, layouts, flow patterns, freight, traffic) with quantifiable success in driving operational performance and efficiencies.
  • Strong financial acumen with an understanding of supply chain and its impact on financial results.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the distribution of commercial and/or industrial products, preferably in electrical distribution or adjacent industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years in leadership positions, managing supervisors in operational settings.
  • Ability to devise strategies and Business Plans to execute the vision, including defining goals and objectives, investments required and subsequent ROI.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with policies and procedures to ensure Summit is operating at maximum efficiency and accomplishing its performance objectives.
  • Highly effective user of ERP systems (preferably SAP), Warehouse Management Systems and barcode technology, and BI tools.
  • Proven track record of systematically recruiting and developing talent in organizations.
  • Detail oriented leader with excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task to achieve expected customer service KPIs.
  • Ability to effectively present information in writing, including business correspondence, reports, and strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Problem solve and innovate to avoid or provide solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be self-directed and motivated following a flexible schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain positive morale and a highly engaged team.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations, Purchasing or related equivalent experience (5 – 10 years) leading in a distribution center environment.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Successful experience in deploying of regional distribution centers.
  • Previous experience in fleet management.

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective leadership of others to ensure efficient distribution operations and adherence to policy, procedure, and process excellence.
  • Lead a proactive safety program within the work group(s) consistent with company policy, providing a safe and secure work environment that complies with all safety and Hazmat rules and regulations, legal regulations, and human resource policies.
  • Responsible for talent management including selection, termination, performance review and professional development of direct and dotted line reports.
  • Assess DC service levels and collaborate with sales team to understand customer needs and problems. Assure successful management and support of customer relationships by all DC location team members by ensuring appropriate staffing levels to meet service, financial and operational support demands.
  • Strategically oversees carrier services and dedicated delivery processes. Partner with support staff to ensure compliance with all DOT regulations.
  • Effectively utilize training programs to develop sales and operations expertise within the facility.
  • Work closely with operations and sales leadership to ensure customer satisfaction and problem resolution. Coordinate and communicate effectively with all company departments.
  • Develop annual operating budgets in support of the corporate financial goals and responsible for P&L management. Complete cost justification and determine ROI.
  • Achieves cost control through productivity of personnel, efficient utilization of facility space and proper protection of stored materials. Ensure accurate inventory levels and prevent shrinkage.
  • Review productivity and service metric data to identify and/or solve operational issues by implementing continuous improvement initiatives aimed at strengthening team unity, achieving company goals, and improving productivity.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of strategies within the Distribution Center environment that improve efficiency, reduce costs, increase profitability, and generate value for Summit’s customers. Emphasis should be on leveraging operational functions in innovative and creative ways that create competitive advantages and provide additional revenue streams for Summit.
  • Review and approve all distribution center purchase requisitions for discretionary expenditures. Manage and recommend capital expenditures with respect to maintenance and repair for equipment, buildings, and grounds.
  • Monitor the maintenance of equipment for assigned work group(s) by using checklists and observations as required.
