About The Position

The Regional Director of Sod Production is responsible for leading and optimizing production across multiple farms to deliver safe, high-quality turfgrass at the best cost while supporting Bethel Farms’ mission: “Honoring God, growing better every day.” This role provides strategic direction, execution leadership, and accountability for production planning, harvesting readiness, equipment effectiveness, workforce performance, and continuous improvement. The Regional Director of Sod Production builds strong teams, drives measurable results, and partners cross-functionally with Sales, Logistics, Maintenance, Procurement, and Finance to ensure customer commitments are met while protecting long-term field health and profitability.

Requirements

  • Turfgrass/sod production experience
  • 3-5 years leading multi-site teams (Farm Managers, supervisors, crews
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Agriculture or related field
  • Demonstrated success improving operational performance (quality, yield, cost, safety)
  • 10+ years of leadership in agricultural production, turfgrass/sod, specialty crops, or similar operations
  • Knowledge of agronomic practices: irrigation, fertility, pest/weed control, field planning, harvesting readiness
  • Experience with Florida growing conditions, sandy soils, high heat/humidity production cycles
  • Able to use and adapt to job-related technology and equipment; technically proficient
  • Strong leadership skills with a hands-on, high-accountability management style
  • Comfortable using KPIs, production reporting, and basic financial analysis
  • Comfortable learning and using new systems and tools
  • Familiarity with technology used in daily operations

Responsibilities

  • Lead production operations across assigned farms, ensuring consistent execution and performance.
  • Establish and track production targets across yield, quality, cost per unit, and harvest readiness.
  • Maintain field health and long-term productivity through strong agronomic planning and disciplined execution.
  • Ensure sod meets Bethel Farms standards for color, density, rooting, uniformity, moisture, and harvest quality.
  • Oversee crop scouting, fertilization programs, irrigation scheduling, pest/weed control, and rotation plans.
  • Coordinate with Quality and harvesting teams to align readiness with weekly demand.
  • Collaborate with sales to execute daily cut sheets.
  • Implement standardized best management practices across locations.
  • Develop seasonal labor strategies and optimize crew deployment by need and demand.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost per acre, labor efficiency, fuel use, water use, and equipment uptime.
  • Partner with Safety Specialist to meet all company and policy standards.
  • Promote stewardship in land, water, chemical, and resource management.
  • Build a strong safety culture through training, accountability, and proactive risk reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA & agricultural regulations, pesticide /licensing requirements, and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to meet company and policy standards.
  • Partner on preventative maintenance planning and equipment replacement strategy.
  • Improve machine down time and performance through operator care standards.
  • Lead and develop direct and indirect personnel by setting expectations and coaching performance.
