The Director of Operations, Northeast leads all regional service operations within Utility Services, a business unit of Xylem’s Water Solutions and Services (WSS) segment. Utility Services delivers advanced services and solutions for odor control and corrosion abatement, water quality and treatment operations, and pipeline condition assessment and asset management to municipal water and wastewater utilities and industrial customers. With responsibility for approximately $90M/Year in regional revenue, this role drives operational excellence, financial performance, and strategic growth. The Director ensures alignment between regional execution and enterprise objectives, translating corporate strategy into disciplined operational plans that enhance customer experience, safety, quality, and profitability. This leader oversees a multi-disciplinary team spanning service delivery, project management, engineering, and field operations, while partnering cross-functionally with internal support teams to ensure integrated execution and sustained performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field required
  • 10+ years of progressive operational leadership experience in utilities, water/wastewater services, industrial services, or related technical field.
  • Demonstrated success in partnering with commercial teams to achieve both short-term and long-term growth objectives.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-disciplinary operations with full P&L responsibility and accountability for business performance.
  • Proven experience directly leading multi-disciplinary teams and collaborating across functions to accomplish business goals.
  • Strong strategic acumen, executive communication skills, and experience leading organizational change.
  • Preferred location within the Richmond to Boston corridor(Northeast territory).
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to regional offices and customer sites (up to 30%).

  • MBA and Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Regional Performance Provide oversight of all Northeast regional operations, ensuring consistent delivery, and scalable growth.
  • Align regional capabilities with corporate strategy, long-range growth initiatives, and evolving customer demands.
  • Prepare, cascade and track goals for regional leaders ensuring alignment between regional targets and leaders and team members’ focus areas.
  • Partner with Sales to position services as comprehensive asset management solutions that address complex client challenges.
  • Collaborate with Chemical Delivery, Capital Project Management, and Engineering leaders to achieve regional revenue targets and optimize planning, execution, and invoicing processes.
  • Drive process standardization, reporting discipline, and performance metrics in partnership with Service Transformation.
  • Operational & Financial Excellence Own full regional P&L accountability, ensuring disciplined financial cadence (from budgeting to financial results), cost management, and sustainable profitability.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs across field services, project execution, safety, and customer satisfaction to drive continuous improvement.
  • Optimize resource allocation, workforce planning, and operational workflows to maximize efficiency and reduce redundancy.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and technical excellence across Chemical Delivery and PFAS/Resin operations.
  • Partner with Finance and divisional leadership to ensure accurate forecasting, revenue recognition, and operational transparency.
  • Leadership & Culture Lead, develop, and inspire a diverse team of service managers, project managers, engineers, technicians, and operations professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, continuous improvement, and proactive-problem solving.
  • Engage directly with key customers to strengthen strategic relationships and reinforce trust.
  • Serve as a critical liaison between regional operations and executive leadership, translating enterprise priorities into measurable outcomes.
