About The Position

Join us as a Regional Director, Business Development where you’ll play a key role in supporting our team and driving operational excellence. The Regional Director, Business Development is responsible for driving growth, profitability, and market expansion for TEL’s Fleet Leasing division within an assigned region. This role blends strategic leadership with active business development responsibilities. The position oversees the performance of TEL’s commercial truck and trailer leasing portfolio, ensuring annual growth of 15% or more while strengthening brand visibility through the pursuit and execution of strategic opportunities. The Regional Director leads, develops, and manages the Business Development (Sales) team to deliver on TEL’s strategic vision, elevate sales performance, expand market presence, and enhance customer relationships. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the role requires direct involvement in prospecting, customer acquisition, and ongoing portfolio management within the transportation leasing sector, specifically Class 8 tractors and trailers.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in equipment leasing sales.
  • In-depth knowledge of the transportation industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and best practices within the "For Hire" carrier and “Private Fleet” environment.
  • Proficient in comprehending and applying financial concepts and TEL’s business model.
  • Proven leadership and sales management skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High energy, positive attitude, and a strong drive to achieve goals.
  • Effective at delegating tasks and responsibilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Bachelor’s degree in “Business Management” or applicable business field or combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • Five or more years of experience in B2B equipment leasing sales in the transportation industry.
  • Ten+ years of progressive responsibility in the equipment sales or leasing industries.
  • Two or more years as Business Development (Sales) Manager or Director level in the transportation industry.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Growth Work with Fleet Leasing Management and Sales Team to drive portfolio growth and revenue for TEL in all AORs, aiming for >15% annual increase in lease portfolio profitability. Promote Salesforce adoption and integrate plans into the Fleet Leasing master strategy. Partner with Marketing and VP to develop messaging strategies for business development. Manage expenses and margins on lease deals while continuously improving service effectiveness.
  • Team Development & Performance Collaborate with VP and other Regional Directors to build a high-performing sales team, focusing on improvement and talent development. Recruit, onboard, and train Business Development staff while ensuring high performance and customer satisfaction. Support sales efforts through BDE ride-alongs and prospecting calls.
  • Business Development & Prospecting Identify and research potential new customers. Provide input, implementation, and target key prospects in AOR growth strategy. Create development plans and forecast sales targets and growth projections. Identify market opportunities through meetings (state association events, etc.), networking, and other channels. Bring new business opportunities through cold email, cold calls, networking, and social settings. Track, identify, and add qualified prospects to sales pipeline. Work inbound leads as identified by the Fleet Leasing Team.
  • Customer & Account Management Build and maintain strong customer relationships. Manage relationships and development of existing accounts to ensure portfolio growth and adherence to company policies. Negotiate lease terms with customers within defined protocols and communicate with stakeholders. Conduct weekly/monthly visits to all identified prospects and key accounts. Monitor transactions to ensure contracts are executed in a timely fashion, along with pickup and/or delivery of equipment. Accountable for renewals, lease terminations, and inventory management under customer portfolio.
  • Market & Competitive Intelligence Monitor customer, market, and competitor activity to identify opportunities for improvement. Provide feedback regarding competitive intelligence in assigned market. Keep in touch with overall transportation market trends and disrupters.
  • Collaboration & Reporting Work across departments to achieve corporate goals and adhere to policies. Attend industry events, protect TEL's interests, and stay updated on industry trends. Coordinate with sales team to develop mutually beneficial proposals/quotes. Work with credit and collections on credit underwriting, deal implementation, and collection process.
  • Operational Excellence Ensure position SOPs are maintained and up to date. Maintain good working knowledge of all products and services offered by TEL. Adhere to all SOPs and Company Policies. Continuously learn, share, and implement improvements in all processes and responsibilities to enhance the effectiveness of providing world-class service and support.
