About The Position

Western States Lodging & Management is seeking an experienced Regional Controller to join our growing finance team. This leadership role oversees accounting operations for a portfolio of properties within one of our business lines - Hotels, Senior Living, or Multi-Family Housing. The Regional Controller plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective collaboration with operational leaders, while supporting strategic initiatives across the finance department. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong accounting professional who enjoys leadership, process improvement, and partnering with operations to drive business performance. Role Summary The Regional Controller is responsible for supervising property accountants and ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting for their assigned business line. This role also helps drive improvements in financial processes, reporting systems, and internal controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 7+ years of accounting experience
  • 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles
  • Experience with property management accounting systems preferred

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Experienced with Yardi or similar property management accounting systems
  • Knowledgeable in GAAP accounting standards
  • A master communicator who can translate financial results to operational teams
  • Familiar with HUD or regulated housing environments (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly close process for the assigned business line
  • Review financial statements to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP
  • Oversee f inancial reporting, consolidations, and technical accounting matters
  • Analyze financial results, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Supervise and mentor p roperty accountants
  • Provide coaching, training, and professional development to accounting staff
  • Promote accountability and high standards within the accounting team
  • Partner with property managers and operational leaders to review and explain financial results
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Provide financial insights to help support operational decision-making
  • Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Coordinate with external auditors and internal finance leadership
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory standards
  • Support system implementations and accounting system enhancements
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and standardization across the portfolio
