About The Position

The Regional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Astrana Health – Apollo Care Partners (“TIP”) serves as a senior physician executive and strategic clinical leader responsible for regional oversight of care delivery, quality, and population health performance. This role provides executive-level clinical leadership across multiple sites and care teams while maintaining an engaged physician presence within the community. The ideal candidate blends clinical excellence with strong operational and leadership acumen, advancing Astrana Health’s mission to deliver high-quality, coordinated, and cost-effective care across the region.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree with an active, unrestricted medical license in good standing.
  • Board certified in a relevant specialty.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, with at least 5 years in physician leadership within managed care, value-based care, or healthcare system operations.
  • Strong understanding of managed care principles, healthcare delivery systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience leading clinical strategy, quality improvement, and performance management initiatives at a regional or system level.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex clinical and operational data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Ability to lead, inspire, and align physicians and care teams in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, MHA, MPH, or other advanced degree.
  • Experience with value-based care models, population health management, and risk-based contracting.
  • Familiarity with healthcare technology platforms, clinical informatics, and data analytics tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regional clinical leadership and oversight for Astrana Health’s care delivery, utilization management, and population health programs, ensuring quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across the continuum of care.
  • Partner closely with the Chief Medical Officer and executive leadership team to align regional clinical operations, care models, and physician engagement strategies with organizational goals and value-based performance objectives.
  • Lead and execute region-wide initiatives to improve clinical outcomes, enhance patient experience, and optimize total cost of care.
  • Oversee and guide care coordination, case management, and transitions of care across the region to promote continuity, reduce avoidable utilization, and improve outcomes for complex and high-risk populations.
  • Direct and support disease management and population health programs, emphasizing prevention, early intervention, and effective chronic disease management.
  • Leverage clinical data, quality metrics, and analytics to identify opportunities for performance improvement and implement strategies that drive measurable, sustainable results.
  • Serve as a clinical leader, mentor, and trusted partner to physicians, advanced practice providers, and care teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a visible and engaged clinical presence within the region by interacting with patients and frontline teams, modeling excellence in care delivery and physician leadership.
  • Ensure regional adherence to all clinical, regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements, supporting audits, surveys, and continuous readiness.
  • Represent the region in enterprise-level clinical discussions and initiatives as assigned.
