About The Position

This role is responsible for nursing practice, nursing operations, care delivery/outcomes for a region of hospitals within Jefferson Health. The highest-level nurse leader within specified region’s acute care facilities will report directly to the Regional President. The Regional CNO will have defined shared accountabilities for the Jefferson Health System Nursing shared (horizontal) strategic initiatives/functions as defined by the CNEO and with support of Regional President. This role has a co-reporting structure to the Regional President and the System CNEO.

Requirements

  • Doctoral preparation is required (will consider candidates enrolled).
  • A bachelor’s and master’s degree required, one of which must be in Nursing.
  • Extensive clinical nursing and management experience with a minimum of seven (7) years in senior nursing leadership roles is required with prior CNO experience strongly desired.
  • An advanced level of knowledge acquired through experience, completion of formal and continuing education in Nursing, health policy, regulatory compliance, process redesign and management are essential.
  • Nursing leadership experience in an academic medical center or complex healthcare organization is required, preferably in a healthcare system.
  • Knowledge and experience in ANCC Magnet/Pathway
  • Ability to function in highly matrixed organization required
  • Knowledge of nursing staffing methods, retention, recruitment, and finance.
  • Proven strategic-thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a Magnet facility /system preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge with collective bargaining processes and contracts and preventative labor relations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Jefferson Health Regional Leadership, in alignment with enterprise leadership, to identify, clarify, and communicate a shared vision and related core business strategies that leverage the size, complexity, diversity, clinical strengths, and resources of regional Nursing/Patient Care Services.
  • Supports the shared service model of key functions of nursing to advance efficiency, effectiveness and financial stewardship.
  • Ensures the organizational vision, values, goals, and objectives are transformed into daily operations resulting in an excellent quality, efficient, effective, caring and respectful environment.
  • Ensures a collaborative partnership in communication and relationship building competencies through strategic planning activities, commitment to shared decision-making, medical staff relationships, diversity, equity and inclusion, relationship management and community involvement.
  • Maintains continuing quality assessment and improvement analysis and evaluation of patient care delivery and communicates with regional / local executive teams and nursing leadership on the activities/issues of Nursing/Patient Care Services.
  • Utilizes business acumen, inclusive of healthcare finance, human resource management including professional development, strategic management, marketing and information management and technology development to effectively oversee Jefferson’s regional nursing operations to deliver cost-effective, high-quality clinical/nursing services and outcomes.
  • Manages according to fiscal year budget plans, ensuring that the budget planning process correctly identifies operational needs and that each nursing campus leadership team operates within the approved fiscal year budget.
  • Directs the regional workforce optimization strategy and plan including productivity monitoring and actions to support optimal patient care and outcomes. Assures alignment to the nursing workforce system plan.
  • Recommends, supports, and participates in educational programming that supports the strategic mission.
  • Provides strategic direction and facilitates the professional advancement of nursing leadership and staff by assuring plan/ opportunities for further education and experience.
  • Participates in Administrative Councils and Committees, Board of Trustees, and Medical Staff Meetings based on regional structure.
  • Overseas regional policy decisions, in alignment with health system executive nursing, that affect Nursing/Patient Care Services.
  • Manages key external relationships with regulatory agencies, board of nursing, academic partners, nursing professional organizations.
