About The Position

The Regional Associate Superintendent supports the Superintendent in advancing the mission of Catholic education within the Archdiocese of Detroit. Serving as an agent of the Superintendent, the Associate Superintendent upholds the teachings of the Catholic Church while implementing the goals and objectives of the Department of Catholic Schools and archdiocesan policies. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of Catholic school leadership, curriculum development and evaluation, organizational change, child development, instructional methods, classroom management, assessment practices, and current educational research.

Requirements

  • Strong oral and written communication, public speaking, and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and related technology tools
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, attend to details, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively and strategically with a diverse team of staff and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Archdiocese of Detroit and State of Michigan regulations related to K–12 education
  • Strong knowledge of Church documents and resources related to Catholic education
  • Familiarity with key data points and metrics related to Catholic school sustainability
  • Experience with strategic planning and long-range projections (3+ years)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound, data-informed decisions
  • Demonstrated leadership, relational, and team-building abilities
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in developing and achieving organizational goals
  • Knowledge of educational technology issues and trends
  • Understanding of current opportunities and challenges in Catholic education
  • Knowledge and experience with Catholic school budgeting and financing
  • Knowledge and experience in branding, marketing, fundraising, and development
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Master’s degree in educational administration or educational leadership required
  • Must be a Catholic in good standing and able to uphold and communicate the teachings of the Church on faith and morals
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality, especially regarding sensitive or protected information
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work with repetitive motion
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 15 pounds
  • Reliable transportation required; must be able to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of five years' experience as a Catholic school principal strongly preferred
  • Teaching or administrative experience in Catholic schools preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support Catholic school principals, designated priests, and governing boards in planning, designing, and implementing programs, processes, and procedures for parish and archdiocesan regional schools
  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned schools
  • Advise and assist principals in their spiritual, instructional, and operational leadership roles
  • Assist designated priests, governing boards, and the Superintendent with principal recruitment, interviews, and selection
  • Respond appropriately to questions and concerns from principals, designated priests, and parents of assigned schools
  • Facilitate communication and conflict resolution to effectively address issues and concerns
  • Conduct regular and as-needed school visits throughout the academic year
  • Assist with the review, development, promulgation, and evaluation of the Archdiocese of Detroit Catholic Schools curriculum
  • Monitor curriculum implementation at the elementary and secondary levels
  • Support archdiocesan assessment programs
  • Approve school calendars to ensure compliance with required instructional hours and archdiocesan events; review and approve requests for calendar changes
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the annual Principal Retreat and principal meetings
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and delivering archdiocesan professional development programs
  • Assist in planning and facilitating High School Admissions Director meetings
  • Provide guidance on federal in-service funding and serve as liaison with public school districts as needed
  • Assist schools with accreditation processes
  • Represent the Department of Catholic Schools at university career fairs to recruit and screen prospective teachers
