About The Position

The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants is seeking a dedicated intern to support the Refugee Department. The intern would work in the Program for Initial Resettlement (PIR) to provide intensive case management for refugees living in the United States for 90 days or less.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Social Work, International Relations, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist refugees in their integration.
  • Help refugees achieve self-sufficiency.
  • Assist with housing set up.
  • Assist with education enrollment.
  • Assist with initial medical appointments.
  • Visit clients.
  • Accompany clients to appointments (health assessments, Social Security, and DSS).
