About The Position

Under the general guidance of the Supervisor of English Language Training, the Refugee Vocational English Language Training Coordinator focuses on digital instruction. The digital instruction coordinator co-develops, coordinates, and teaches classes designed to strengthen English language skills and digital instruction. This is both a participant-facing role providing direct instruction, and a peer training role. The purpose of the role is to expand and strengthen existing digital instruction and integrate AI-supported tools into adult education. The training coordinator reports directly to the Supervisor of English Language Training. Individual accountabilities and work volume will be established through the development of annual success objectives, within the framework outlined below. The Refugee Vocational English Language Training Coordinator leverages industry knowledge and best practices to promote the mission and vision of Heartland Human Care Services. Supports culture development and management efforts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma is required.
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience working with refugee and resettlement populations is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant lived experience in refugee resettlement or forced migration may be considered.
  • Multilingual skills strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Sources and develops high-quality instructional materials and lesson plans to support the specific needs of a diverse group program participants, primarily refugees and asylees.
  • Recruits and enrolls participants as set out in annual success objectives, ensuring compliance with program eligibility guidelines.
  • Delivers culturally competent instruction, both online and in person, to program participants with special attention to literacy skills and the unique needs of individuals with interrupted formal education.
  • Develops and provides relevant life skills instruction to reduce barriers to employment including but not limited to public transportation ride-along, workplace tours, hands-on practice opportunities and digital literacy skills instruction.
  • Recruits, trains and mentors’ volunteers, program assistants, and guest speakers, including program graduates, to support participants during class and in early employment.
  • Tracks class attendance, participant engagement, and program outcomes, ensuring compliance with program goals, funding requirements and contractual agreements.
  • Communicates with program graduates at regular intervals throughout their early employment as defined by project funding requirements.
  • Consults regularly with colleagues, employer partners, refugee employment coalitions, other local and national refugee-specific employment programs, and experts in various career pathways to learn about best practices and support ongoing program improvement.
  • Collaborates with employment specialists and partnership developers to identify, cultivate, and establish external partnerships.
  • Maintains inventory of client support materials including but not limited to interview clothing, grooming kits, and transportation assistance.
  • Other duties may be assigned as it relates to the job performed.
