About The Position

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Refrigeration (VRF System) Technician to join a leading HVAC service team based in Charleston, SC. The Refrigeration (VRF System) Technician will perform diagnostics, maintenance, and commissioning of advanced Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems for commercial and large residential projects.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years working with VRF systems or advanced HVAC technologies.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in VRF diagnostics, commissioning, and repair; familiarity with OEM software tools.
  • Certifications: EPA Section 608 Certification required; manufacturer-specific certifications preferred- OEM.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in HVAC systems strongly preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain VRF systems from major manufacturers including LG, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Samsung, and Trane.
  • Troubleshoot communication networks, inverter boards, sensors, electronic expansion valves (EEVs), and control wiring using OEM tools and schematics.
  • Commission and start up new VRF systems, ensuring proper refrigerant charging, network integrity, and control configuration.
  • Utilize manufacturer diagnostic software (e.g., LG LGMV, Mitsubishi Maintenance Tool, Daikin Navigator, Samsung DVM Pro) for data logging, parameter monitoring, and system optimization.
  • Detect and repair refrigerant leaks; perform nitrogen pressure testing, vacuuming, and recharging in compliance with EPA and manufacturer standards.
  • Assess system performance, document operating parameters, and recommend improvements for efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with OEM technical support and factory representatives to resolve complex or warranty-related issues.
  • Provide on-site technical training and guidance to junior technicians and customers on VRF system operation and maintenance.
