About The Position

Under general supervision, this position acts as a team lead and subject matter expert for junior team members. The Senior is responsible for performing advanced maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt specialized trailers/containers (dry van, refrigerated, and temperature controlled), chassis, and other equipment. Technicians must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete all fleet maintenance processes and ensure that units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times. This position can work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime; it requires full-time attendance.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age with 3 or more years of experience in Semi-Trailer maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent
  • Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:
  • Willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed
  • EPA section 608 certification
  • Tech 2 DOT-certified in FHWA Inspections and Air Brakes
  • Possess advanced welding cutting and brazing skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair onboard telematics
  • Ability to recover freon
  • Basic tools are required to successfully perform this role; these tools must be supplied by the employee in most locations; employees without their own tools may obtain them through toolbox purchase programs
  • Ability to work with minimal direction

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 3 or more years of experience in Semi-Trailer maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent
  • Successfully complete all required TCA training
  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to read documents and/or information in English
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Advanced computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to use a logical approach to derive a specific conclusion from general ideas
  • Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively
  • Knowledge of approaches and techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving operations or process problems
  • Knowledge of ABS systems

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and complex repairs as they pertain to specialized trailer maintenance, air brake systems, and FHWA Inspections
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair specialized trailer equipment; utilize vendor cites for troubleshooting as needed
  • Train, mentor, onboard, and act as a team lead to junior team members
  • Participate in Original Equipment Manufacture training for OE repairs
  • Develop innovative solutions while working independently under minimal direction
  • Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures
  • Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers at all times
  • Accurately perform advanced repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications, complete work orders, and exceed requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance tasks to include, but not limited to, tire replacements/flat repairs, brake adjustments/services/replacements, electrical diagnostics, basic structural repairs on trailer chassis, sub-frames, etc.
  • Understand and demonstrate the advanced use of a cutting torch and welding equipment and perform mid-level repairs on chassis, frames, brackets, etc.
