About The Position

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA. We are seeking a Refrigeration Technician that will be responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial refrigeration systems, including ammonia and Freon-based equipment. This role supports production by ensuring refrigeration systems remain reliable, compliant, and operating efficiently across multiple temperature zones. The technician will complete daily logs, inspections, and preventative maintenance, and respond to system alarms or equipment failures as needed. Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of ammonia refrigeration experience and familiarity with Freon systems.
  • Required certifications include a 06A Electrical License, Universal Refrigerant Handlers Card, and RETA Operator I or CARO, all maintained in active status.
  • Must possess strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical systems, including pumps, flow rates, and controls.
  • Capable of completing detailed record-keeping, performing physical work up to 50 lbs, and working on multiple temperature ammonia systems with various configurations (flooded, liquid recirculation, DX).
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check including employment and educational verification, and credit screen, and to work extended schedule and weekends during the fresh pack season, typically July to early November.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain industrial ammonia refrigeration systems across multiple temperature zones.
  • Perform routine inspections of refrigeration equipment, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, vessels, pumps, valves, and associated piping.
  • Troubleshoot system issues including mechanical failures, electrical/control issues, and operational alarms.
  • Support maintenance and repair work on Freon systems as needed.
  • Work with different ammonia system designs, including flooded systems, liquid recirculation systems, and direct expansion (DX) systems.
