About The Position

Direct and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Refrigeration Department, including scheduling adequate personnel and maintenance work orders. Perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed to keep ammonia refrigeration system and facilities operating efficiently and in a safe manner. Coordinate with Plant Management to establish maintenance schedules so as to minimize downtime on production.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • 10+ years in maintenance or mechanical field; experience in food manufacturing and refrigeration systems preferred.
  • Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) Certification.
  • Possess knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Able to communicate complex information effectively to other employees.
  • Able to troubleshoot effectively to diagnose mechanical issues.
  • Know how to use maintenance software and office computer programs, especially Microsoft Office.
  • Know how to manage other employees and resolve issues between employees that may arise.
  • Able to strictly follow any and all safety procedures and policies in place.
  • Able to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Know how to operate industrial-size equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Possess adequate hand dexterity to manipulate or move objects.
  • Able to work well with others in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Train and supervise all Refrigeration Technicians and PSM Coordinator to ensure safe and proper maintenance procedures and practices are followed.
  • Manage the schedules for all Refrigeration Department employees so that adequate personnel are on hand to address any potential issues that may arise.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures at all times and ensure all Maintenance Personnel are following Lockout/Tagout procedures at all times.
  • Conduct annual mechanical integrity audits, which includes, but is not limited to, reviewing PMs and maintenance records, creating findings report, and then incorporating findings into the Process Safety Management (PSM) protocols.
  • Create and manage work orders, distributing assignments to Refrigeration Technicians for necessary maintenance or repairs.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Repair ammonia refrigeration system, equipment or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of the ammonia refrigeration system, control valve groups and compressor room, assessing staffing needs and inspecting machines and equipment.
  • Create preventative maintenance (PM) schedules for all machines and piping related to the ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals or parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Assist and prepare for EPA and OSHA audits as needed.
  • Review repairs/maintenance performed by Refrigeration Technicians to ensure proper procedures are followed regarding work performance and safety procedures.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies.
  • Follow SugarCreek safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
