Chemours is seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic to join our team. This position will be available at our CDH location in Newark, DE. The Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for independently executing multi-step laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and supporting research initiatives through technical insights and documentation. This role collaborates with senior scientists to define testing priorities, contributes to the development of intellectual property, and ensures laboratory equipment and systems are maintained and upgraded. The Refrigeration Mechanic applies foundational scientific knowledge, demonstrates analytical thinking, and supports continuous improvement in laboratory operations. This role will support R&D projects within the Thermal & Specialty Solutions business with specific focus on testing of new refrigerants in our test center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience in the Refrigeration industry with demonstrated knowledge in the field.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration system operating principles, familiarity with common commercial HVAC&R systems and instrumentation, and maintenance experience with such systems.
  • Demonstrated mechanical & electrical hands-on experience to execute equipment modifications in support of projects. This includes hot work experience (brazing, welding, soldering), equipment power and signal wiring, and system refrigerant line connecting and modifying.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree OR Technical Certificate in a Mechanical, Electrical, or Electromechanical program.
  • Universal EPA 608 Certification or obtain within a month of hiring
  • System diagnosis skills to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues (ex. compressor motor issues, troubleshoot operating pressures/temperatures, refrigerant leak indicators, etc.).
  • Demonstrated mechanical & electrical hands-on experience to execute equipment modifications in support of projects. This includes hot work experience (brazing, welding, soldering), equipment power and signal wiring, and system refrigerant line connecting and modifying.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Excel for test system data processing, PowerPoint for data presentation, Outlook and teams for presenting data, scheduling, etc.
  • Ability to work independently/effective time management.

Responsibilities

  • Install and/or modify refrigeration test systems including commercial freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners, heat pumps, and compressors with minimal direction.
  • Install and/or modify instrumentation to evaluate performance of the test systems including hot work (brazing, welding, soldering), compression fitting connections, auxiliary equipment (e.g. refrigerant concentration monitoring, duct work, etc.).
  • Independently develop and execute multi-step laboratory experiments, ensuring safe practices and accurate data collection.
  • Organize, analyze, and interpret experimental results; recommend alternative approaches or process improvements.
  • Collaborate with senior technical staff to define objectives, prioritize testing, and align experimental work with broader research goals.
  • Provide data and insights to support research programs, technical reports, laboratory safety documentation, hazards analysis, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain and upgrade laboratory equipment, data acquisition systems, tools, and instrumentation to ensure operational readiness and accuracy.
  • Document findings and contribute to basic report writing and data analysis using tools such as Excel or similar software.
  • Set up new experimental procedures with guidance from principal investigators or senior scientists.
  • Participate in procurement activities to support laboratory operations and ensure availability of necessary materials.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and use safe procedures during all workstreams.
