Position Purpose Develop cost estimates for both design/build and plan and spec Refrigeration projects. Apply industry knowledge, experience, and estimating processes to accurately match anticipated cost to project scope.

Requirements

  • Strong written and oral communication and coordinating skills
  • Excellent customer relations skills
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in reading and understanding project drawings, specifications and bid requirement documents. Drafting or CAD experience desired.
  • Minimum two-year technical college degree in mechanical systems or 5 years of related field installation experience.
  • An understanding of mechanical systems utilized in commercial/industrial markets, preferably in the same or related markets as current Bassett experience:
  • Plumbing
  • Refrigeration - industrial systems, ammonia systems, etc.
  • HVAC - ventilation systems, boiler systems, chilled water systems, etc.
  • Strong computer skills including capability to efficiently utilize a computerized take-off and estimating program and Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Prior estimation experience desired.
  • Physical ability to access job sites, including some climbing

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with the estimating system Quote Soft is ideal

Responsibilities

  • Receive requests for internal estimates via assignment from Sr. Estimator. If a request for an estimate is received via direct invite from customer, general contractor, bid notification or plan services, gather basic quote/scope information as needed and forward to Business Development for decision to proceed or decline.
  • Prepare project estimate:
  • Obtain plan and specifications from Bassett design engineer, BD, PM or customer.
  • Gather field data and/or meet with customer, when requested.
  • Attend pre-bid walkthroughs and meetings, as required.
  • Thoroughly review and understand the required estimate scope that is identified in plans and specifications. Obtain additional information, if needed.
  • Identify materials/ equipment/ work to be purchased or subcontracted and contact vendors to obtain quotes.
  • Perform quality take-offs.
  • Request labor rates and Target Fund as needed.
  • Assess project risk factors and recommend labor factors or other cost adjustments.
  • Apply overhead and other costs, as needed. Recommend, review, and confirm project mark-up with requesting engineer/PM and Project Operations Manager.
  • Prepare proposal and/or bid submittal documents for plan and spec projects and assist with design build documents upon request.
  • Attend bid reviews, if required.
  • Update bid summaries and proposals in real time dollars when requested.
  • If project award/commitment is obtained, attend the hand-off of project and estimate information to a Project Manager through established procedures.
  • Assist Project Managers with takeoffs and estimates for change orders and construction bulletins.
  • Support and maintain a safe and Lean working environment.
  • Identify, plan, and implement opportunities for continually improving estimating methods and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned by Sr. Estimator or Business Development Manager in Mechanical Contracting Division.
