About The Position

The position involves executing patient insurance referrals, consultations, and diagnostic procedures within a healthcare facility. The role is crucial for ensuring that patients receive timely and accurate information regarding their appointments and insurance authorizations.

Requirements

• Proficient in word processing, data processing, data input, and searching for information on computer applications.
• Strong organizational skills, prioritization skills, and a systematic approach to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Able to work independently and act on own initiative.
• Ability to read, write, and converse fluently in English; bi-lingual skills are a plus.
• Understanding of medical terminology.

Nice To Haves

• Medical Secretary Certification or equivalent experience preferred.
• Two (2) years related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Schedule consultation and diagnostic appointments with hospitals and specialty offices for patients per provider request and document necessary information.
• Accurately and timely complete requested forms for insurance and specialty offices.
• Obtain insurance authorization for appointments.
• Contact patients to provide appointment date, time, location, and preparation information for appointments, if appropriate.
• Answer questions and conduct research to address inquiries regarding patient referral appointments and testing.
• Answer telephone, screen calls, take messages, and provide information regarding patient referrals.
• Work closely with other internal departments to ensure all necessary patient information is received to complete the patient referral.
• Reschedule missed appointments after the 30-day patient responsibility window has elapsed.
• Ensure referrals are properly tracked in the referral database, including tracking referrals for no-shows, cancellations, and rescheduled appointments.
• Review encounters for changed insurance information and changing demographics, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
