About The Position

The primary focus of this position is to provide excellent customer service to physicians and patients referred for appointments/services at USF Health. Serves as the point of contact for patients being referred to USF Health to schedule provider referred appointments/services within the practice plan. Screens and processes internal referrals generated by USF Health and/or outside providers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 years of Front Desk experience in healthcare
  • Approved medical terminology certification or med term course completion

Responsibilities

  • Receives and tracks patient referrals including working with other specialties to confirm patient visits, as well as investigates any incomplete referrals for timely processing
  • Works with clinical staff to ensure a timely and appropriate appointment is scheduled
  • Obtains authorizations required for patient visits, procedure, surgeries and medication to be approved by payer
  • Reviews and addresses messages related to patient referrals to allow for timely scheduling of visits
  • Develops and maintains an effective and accurate filing system for the department
  • Identifies and routes patient appointment information to the correct recipient via computer database and/or telephone calls
  • Answers, screens and routes phone calls from physicians, nurses, administrative staff, internal and external ancillary support areas, departments, hospitals and academic offices and others for efficient and timely communication
  • Maintains overall patient experience and safety, following all emergency clinical policies and protocols, to allow for optimal experience of care
